Longacre is a co-educational independent day school and nursery for children aged 2 to 11, located just five miles south of Guildford on the outskirts of Shamley Green in the glorious Surrey Hills. Here, children have woods to explore, time to enjoy the fresh air, and encouragement to get muddy.
Offering an extensive programme of inspiring academics including science, sports, art and DT, and Forest School, all of our children have the chance to shine. They can discover their gifts and convert these into real talent, as well as learning how to deal with challenges. All our children have opportunities to compete, perform and be valued for who they are. Everyone is someone at Longacre.
The Independent School’s Inspectorate visited in summer 2022, and they certainly agreed – finding the school to be excellent (the highest rating) in both pupils’ achievement and personal development. They observed that ‘Pupils gain confidence and experience in a very wide range of clubs’, and ‘demonstrate excellent levels of self-knowledge and self-assurance and feel valued as individuals’.
We put exploration, fulfilment and the delights of childhood at the heart of everything we do, because we believe passionately that these characteristics form the vital foundations for motivated, confident and aspirational learners. We are an independent school in every sense. We are not tied to any senior school and in large part our success is down to understanding our children, and knowledge of the wide choice of destination schools.
We are proud of the diverse destinations to which Longacre pupils advance, with year groups of around 36 children progressing to in excess of 15 different senior schools. We take care to get to know our pupils as they go through the years here, and then work with parents to find the ideal match for the next step.

We look forward to welcoming you.
To get a real feel for the school we encourage you to visit – either on a personal tour or by attending one of our many Open Days held throughout the year. You will be taken on a tour of the school by some of our pupils followed by refreshments and an opportunity to meet the Head and other members of our Senior Leadership Team to discuss any questions you may have. Tours usually last around 45 minutes so we encourage all attendees to arrive at 9:30am to allow enough times for questions at the end of their tour.

Longacre teaches a broad, dynamic curriculum where the emphasis is on skills as much as acquiring knowledge. The children are predominantly classroom based up to the end of Year 3, and taught by specialist subject teachers thereafter. French and Computing are taught from Reception onwards and all Pre-Prep children are taught Forest School, Games and Music by specialist subject staff. Children are extended wherever possible through ‘chilli challenges’ and often move beyond the National Curriculum guidelines.
The welfare of our pupils is paramount and we firmly believe in the motto of the school’s founder that “A happy heart goes all the way”. We want all of our children to be happy at school and to be able to enjoy their education. Our vision is to develop in our children those qualities that cannot be defined by academic success: interpersonal skills, leadership potential, self-awareness and mental and physical stamina. These skills are encouraged and reinforced through the school’s citizenship and pastoral social and health programme. We believe that self-confidence, emotional intelligence and mindfulness are invaluable assets for future life.
As well as offering before and after-school care for all pupils from Nursery to Year 6, children are encouraged to take part in one of our many after-school clubs that cover both creative and sporting interests. Clubs and activities are run by both members of staff and external club providers with expertise in particular fields. We offer over 25 different clubs and activities for various age groups including early morning clubs, lunchtime clubs and after school clubs.
